Junior Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

RINA is looking for a Junior Cyber Security Engineer to join its Operating Engine Division in Italy. The role offers the opportunity to work on security assessments, hardening, and support for customers across multiple locations.

Key responsibilities

• Identify security risks in complex systems and architectures.
• Analyse, draft and review technical documentation for IT and communication systems.
• Manage version control of documents and configuration of systems.
• Design and recommend security measures to improve security posture.
• Implement hardening measures based on security baselines.
• Provide cybersecurity support to customers, including possible code/script development and network device configuration.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Cyber Security, Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
• Up to 5 years of experience in the field; 2‑3 years preferred.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and excellent written and verbal communication in Italian and English.
• Flexibility to multitask in a fast‑paced environment and travel domestically or abroad.

Required skills

• Knowledge of security aspects of major operating systems.
• Understanding of cryptographic algorithms (SHA, AES, CBC, ECB).
• Networking fundamentals.
• Programming languages: Java, C/C++/C#, VB.Net, Python.
• Familiarity with DBMS interfaces and development environments.
• Security tools: Ansible, Puppet, vulnerability assessment tools, penetration‑testing techniques, cloud security platforms, cyber‑threat intelligence, Mobile Threat Detection, IPS/IDS, EPP/EDR/MDR/XDR, code security analysis tools, WAF, SOAR, SIEM, GRC solutions.
• Relevant security certifications (e.g., ISO27001 Lead Auditor, GIAC, CEH, OSCP, CISM, CISA, CISSP) are a plus.
