Legal Officer (P4) – Senior Legal Role

About the role

The World Food Programme is seeking a senior Legal Officer (P4) to join its Legal Office at Headquarters. This position provides high‑level legal advice, handles complex legal matters, and contributes to policy development within a humanitarian context.

Key responsibilities

• Issue independent legal advice and manage client legal issues across the organization.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
• Develop new policies or programs in specialized legal areas.
• Lead and mentor junior Legal Officers, providing guidance on complex cases.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with international and humanitarian law.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in international, humanitarian, or public law.
• Proven ability to work autonomously on sensitive legal matters.
• Leadership experience, including team guidance and mentorship.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
