PYP Teaching Assistant

About the role

The International School of Como is looking for a caring and enthusiastic PYP Teaching Assistant to join the Primary team from August 2026. Working closely with the class teacher, you will help create a safe, engaging and inquiry‑driven environment for young learners.

Key responsibilities

• Support the class teacher in delivering IB Primary Years Programme, inquiry‑based and concept‑driven lessons.
• Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce conceptual understanding and skill development.
• Assist in setting up and maintaining a stimulating, student‑centred learning environment.
• Promote students’ social, emotional and physical development in line with the PYP learner profile.
• Manage classroom routines, transitions and behaviour using positive, restorative approaches.
• Observe and document student learning, sharing insights with the teacher.
• Provide support for students with additional learning needs where required.
• Ensure a safe, organised and inclusive classroom setting.
• Supervise students during playtime, learning activities and school events.
• Uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.

Required profile

• Experience working with primary‑aged children.
• Warm, patient and supportive approach.
• High expectations for behaviour and student learning.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
• Energy, flexibility and a proactive mindset.
• Legal right to live and work in Italy (EU passport or valid work permit).
