Software Engineer – Railway Applications

About the role

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self‑motivated Software Engineer to join its team in Genoa, Italy. You will work on railway‑specific software applications, contributing to all phases of development in a fast‑paced, agile environment.

Key responsibilities

• Define detailed requirements for software components and systems.
• Design, implement, and integrate software components.
• Verify and test developed software to ensure quality and reliability.
• Release, maintain, and support delivered software components.

Required profile

• 3 to 5 years of professional software development experience.
• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of agile development methodologies, Test‑Driven Development, Continuous Integration and DevOps.
• Object‑oriented design and programming.
• Proficiency in JavaScript, Python, C/C++, Java and Rust.
• Experience with Linux operating systems.
• Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and database technologies such as SQL, Oracle, Redis and MongoDB.
• Understanding of the Railway Traffic Management domain is a plus.
