Communication Officer (Science and Agrifood Innovation)

About the role

The Communication Officer (Science and Agrifood Innovation) supports the Chief Scientist at FAO by developing and delivering audience‑led communications on science, technology and innovation for agrifood systems. The role is based in the Office of the Chief Scientist at FAO headquarters in Rome.

Key responsibilities

• Research and analyse technical, social, economic and environmental information to inform evidence‑based communication planning.
• Produce clear and accurate communication products such as articles, statements, briefing notes, opinion pieces, speeches, presentations and reports.
• Support strategic planning, coordination and implementation of communications and advocacy on science, technology and innovation for the Chief Scientist’s Office.
• Collaborate closely with the Office of Communications, Digital FAO and Agro‑Informatics Division to ensure coherence and alignment of messages.
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams, lead working groups, and represent FAO at international meetings and conferences.

Required profile

• University degree in communication, journalism, science communication or a related field.
• Proven experience in communicating scientific or agrifood topics to diverse audiences.
• Strong analytical, writing and editing skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and international environments.
• Familiarity with FAO’s Science and Innovation Strategy and Strategic Framework 2022‑2031.
