Junior Mechanical Engineer – Rolling Stock (Pistoia/Napoli)

About the role

Hitachi Rail is seeking an enthusiastic Junior Mechanical Engineer to join its Rolling Stock Engineering Department. Based in Pistoia or Napoli, you will work in a fast‑paced, multicultural environment supporting the design, integration and validation of railway mechanical components.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare System Requirements Specifications (SyRS) for mechanical components.
• Analyse technical proposals from suppliers and verify installation/integration drawings.
• Conduct internal and supplier design reviews under supervision.
• Attend system stand‑alone type tests and review test reports.
• Support manufacturing, testing and validation phases.
• Prepare structural, layout and routing drawings, as well as Bill of Materials.
• Ensure compliance with railway regulations, standards (e.g., EN 15085) and project constraints.
• Assist in vehicle approval documentation and homologation.

Required profile

• Basic knowledge of mechanical disciplines, design verification and validation methodologies.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an international, multicultural team.
• Good organisational and problem‑solving skills.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for short‑term national or international business trips.

Required skills

• Mechanical CAD systems – Catia or Creo.
• Product Lifecycle Management – Windchill.
• Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Piping system design and joint design methodologies.
• Noise and vibration modelling of mechanical components.
• Welded structure design rules and standards (EN 15085).
