Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join its Rolling Stock Engineering Department in Italy. The role involves working on complex railway projects, collaborating with internal teams and external suppliers, and ensuring compliance with international railway standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare System Requirements Specifications (SyRS) for mechanical components.
• Analyse and assess technical documentation from suppliers.
• Produce and verify mechanical installation, integration, and structural drawings.
• Conduct internal and supplier design reviews under engineering supervision.
• Support manufacturing, testing, validation, and vehicle homologation phases.
• Review design documentation with customers and suppliers.
• Prepare Bill of Materials and equipment layout drawings.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience in the railway sector or similarly complex industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of railway regulations, standards, and engineering processes.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, multicultural, international setting.

Required skills

• IBM DOORS requirements management tool.
• Mechanical CAD systems – Catia or Creo.
• PLM system – Windchill.
• Piping system design, fittings, and joint design methodologies.
• Noise and vibration modelling of mechanical components.
• Welded structure design rules (EN 15085).
• Office automation software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
