Assistant Manager – Retail Operations

About the role

The Assistant Manager will support the Store Manager in delivering an efficient, customer‑focused retail environment. You will help drive sales, profitability and brand standards while ensuring a clean, safe store for shoppers and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Live the Centra brand values and act as a role model for the team.
• Set, monitor and achieve sales, gross profit, net margin, waste and other KPI targets.
• Implement planograms accurately and maintain the correct product range.
• Merchandise and present the store to the highest visual standards.
• Foster teamwork, positive attitude and inclusive communication.
• Support employee development, performance management and training.
• Handle customer queries professionally and in line with store policy.
• Understand and achieve margin targets across all departments.
• Engage with new initiatives and adopt new ways of working.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in a relevant retail or customer‑service role.
• Strong communication, delegation and leadership abilities.
• Highly driven with a strong work ethic and commercial awareness.
• Passion for grocery retail and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• Experience balancing cash tills and handling cash transactions.
