Child and Youth Program Assistant (CY-01/02)

About the role

The Child and Youth Program Assistant provides developmental care and instruction for children and youth aged 6 weeks to 18 years within Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs. The role involves supervising safety, delivering curriculum‑based activities, and supporting daily routines.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and ensure the safety of children during indoor, outdoor, and field‑trip activities.
• Implement developmentally appropriate activities using prepared curriculum and activity plans.
• Prepare and serve appropriate snacks or meals.
• Identify and respond to emergencies, including evacuations, illness, and emotional needs.
• Maintain accurate records of children’s whereabouts and attendance.

Required profile

• Minimum age of 18 years at time of appointment.
• Successful background check and compliance with Section 231 of the Crime Control Act.
• Immunization against communicable diseases and annual physical examinations.
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 lb, walk, bend, stoop, and stand regularly.
• Visual and auditory capabilities sufficient for supervision.
• Mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse/neglect.
• Completion of required DoW and Service training, including CPR and First Aid certification.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional field trips.

Required skills

• Current CPR certification.
• Current First Aid certification.
