Child and Youth Program Training & Curriculum Specialist

About the role
The Child and Youth Program Training & Curriculum Specialist ensures high‑quality programming for children and youth by delivering comprehensive staff training, overseeing developmentally appropriate curriculum, and fostering professional growth opportunities. This position supports Navy Child and Youth Programs (CYP) and aligns training with DoD certification and national accreditation standards.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver a training program that enhances knowledge, skills, and competencies of staff working with children ages 6 weeks to 18 years.
- Identify training needs, create individualized training plans, and schedule required learning opportunities.
- Maintain training records, individual development plans, and prepare status reports for supervisors and CYP Directors.
- Ensure compliance with fire, safety, sanitation, and other regulatory requirements in classrooms and activity areas.
- Support employees in pursuing higher‑education credentials such as the Child Development Associate (CDA) or Military School‑Age Credential (MSA) and facilitate use of tuition assistance programs.
- Collaborate with local colleges, universities, and professional organizations to expand professional development pathways.
- Assist Family Child Care (FCC) directors and monitors with training and accreditation support.
Required profile
- Experience in training delivery, curriculum development, or program coordination for child and youth services.
- Familiarity with DoD CY program standards, accreditation processes, and safety regulations.
- Strong organizational and record‑keeping abilities.
- Excellent communication skills for working with staff, providers, and external education partners.
Required skills
- Knowledge of DoD Child and Youth Program certification requirements.
- Curriculum development and instructional design expertise.
- Training facilitation and adult‑learning principles.
- Proficiency in maintaining training documentation and reporting.
