Design Engineer

About the role

Caracol is seeking a Design Engineer to support the development and industrialisation of additive manufacturing projects. The role works closely with sales and internal teams to translate customer requirements into feasible, production‑ready designs for large‑format additive manufacturing (LFAM).

Key responsibilities

• Perform engineering and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) activities on both on‑demand projects and technology benchmarks.
• Support sales during feasibility studies by analysing customer files, technical prerequisites and functional requirements.
• Develop detailed mechanical designs and parametric 3D models that meet project specifications and quality standards.
• Prepare and manage 2D technical drawings according to industrial standards.
• Interface with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to validate technical feasibility.
• Define material and process requirements in collaboration with internal teams.
• Evaluate part printability according to LFAM criteria and prepare designs for production.
• Coordinate with production, quality, purchasing, logistics and administrative functions to ensure smooth project execution.
• Maintain complete technical documentation and design records for traceability.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
• 2‑3 years of experience in mechanical design, additive manufacturing or related industrial engineering roles.

Required skills

• CAD and 3D modelling (parametric modelling).
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
• Additive Manufacturing processes, especially large‑format (LFAM).
• Mechanical design and creation of 2D technical drawings.
• Evaluation of part printability and preparation for production.
