External Affairs Consultant – Rome

About the role

The World Bank Group is seeking an External Affairs Consultant to support its Communications and External Affairs Vice‑Presidency in Rome. This 1‑year fixed‑term position will provide strategic analysis and advice on multilateral engagement, political and institutional developments, and outreach initiatives across Southern Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze political, institutional, and multilateral developments affecting the World Bank’s work in Italy, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Malta and Cyprus.
• Maintain and deepen relationships with government authorities, UN agencies, WTO, and other international partners based in Rome.
• Design and implement multi‑constituency outreach programs and new forms of engagement in development cooperation.
• Prepare briefing notes, reports, and recommendations for senior management and technical teams.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in international relations, political science, development studies or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in external affairs, stakeholder engagement, or multilateral diplomacy.
• Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
