Hazloc (Ex) Engineer – Safety & Certification

About the role

DNV is seeking a Hazloc (Ex) Engineer to join its HAZLOC team, responsible for ensuring the safety and reliability of equipment used in explosive atmospheres across industries such as hydrogen, oil & gas, renewables and mining. The role is based in Oslo with the possibility to work from other European locations or relocate.

Key responsibilities

• Lead type and design examinations of equipment intended for explosive (Ex) environments.
• Perform in‑depth technical assessments and review documentation to verify compliance with relevant standards.
• Conduct and support testing activities in DNV’s accredited test facility.
• Travel to customer sites to witness tests, carry out audits and provide technical support.
• Act as a trusted technical partner for customers and internal colleagues.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and procedures.

Required profile

• Strong technical expertise in hazardous area equipment and safety standards.
• Experience working with certification schemes and performing compliance assessments.
• Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to customers and stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites and work in a collaborative team environment.

Required skills

• ATEX certification knowledge.
• IECEx certification knowledge.
• UKEX certification knowledge.
• INMETRO certification knowledge.
• Familiarity with IEC/EN/ISO standards relevant to explosive atmospheres.
