Instructor – Sustainable Food Systems

About the role

The American University of Rome seeks an experienced instructor to teach the graduate‑level course “Sustainable Food Systems” within its U.S.-accredited Master in Food Studies. The course runs for 45 contact hours, first in the spring semester (January‑May 2027) and then in the fall semester (September‑December 2027).

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, seminars, and field trips covering conceptual and analytical frameworks of food system sustainability.
• Guide students in analyzing trade‑offs and real‑world sustainability practices across Global North and South contexts.
• Assess student work, provide feedback, and grade assignments and projects.
• Coordinate and lead one or more field trips to regional or local food systems in Italy.
• Contribute to curriculum development and ensure alignment with program objectives.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in agricultural economics, development economics, or economic geography.
• Previous teaching experience, preferably at the graduate level.
• Excellent command of English.
• Legal right to work in Italy.
