Internship - Trade/Product Classification Engineer

About the role

This internship is with ABB's Distribution Solutions Division in Dalmine, Italy, and reports to the Finance Manager. You will support product staff and LBL Trade Operations Managers in classifying products, software and technology that ABB exports or imports according to export control (dual-use and military) and customs (Harmonized System) rules, and also classify purchased third-party products, software and raw materials. The work model is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and update master data of ABB products, technologies and software (product description, HTS code, ECN/ECCN numbers) and support customs declarants with the product information they need.
• Prepare Product Classification Reports through thorough research and analysis of ABB products.
• Analyse goods to be sold or shipped, identify and classify products, software and technologies, especially when regulations change.
• Support the classification of purchased goods and finished products, preferably well before import, export and shipment.
• Support the Transport Management Center when goods must be declared at customs on short notice or are under inspection.
• Collect long-term declarations from suppliers (e.g. preferential and non-preferential origin).
• Review ECN/ECCN and HTS classifications with the Trade Compliance Officer and update master data in SAP Global Trade Services (GTS).
• Maintain knowledge of export control and customs rules through internal and external training and ABB's e-learning.
• Identify and develop improvement projects for the digitalisation of classification processes.

Required profile

• Master or Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Good knowledge of English and Italian.
• Good communication skills to work with procurement, the trade office, order handling, product management, industrialization and sales departments.
• Business mindset, high responsiveness, change promoter, strong data analysis and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Office, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of SAP and SAP Global Trade Services (GTS) is a plus; knowledge of Power BI is a plus.
• Technical knowledge of products, export control and customs rules is a big plus.
