Junior Software Application Engineer

About the role

RINA is looking for a motivated Junior Software Application Engineer to join its Operating Engine Division in Genoa. You will work on satellite navigation and mission‑critical software, contributing to the design, simulation and validation of GNSS algorithms and related signal‑processing components.

Key responsibilities

• Design, analyse and develop algorithms for GNSS, sensor integration and state‑filtering.
• Create dynamic models and run simulations in MATLAB & Simulink to validate algorithm performance.
• Implement and optimise Python modules for data processing, rapid prototyping and testing.
• Perform performance analysis of GNSS systems under nominal and degraded conditions, using statistical and modelling techniques.
• Assist in defining technical requirements and preparing design documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate software modules into complex, mission‑critical systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• 1‑2 years of experience in navigation, simulation or related studies (GNSS, state estimation, sensor fusion, signal processing).
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.

Required skills

• MATLAB and Simulink for dynamic modelling and simulation.
• Python programming, including NumPy, SciPy and Pandas.
• Understanding of GNSS system principles, error budgets and measurement models.
• Familiarity with estimation and filtering techniques such as Kalman, EKF and UKF.
