Lecturer / Senior Lecturer – Security Studies

About the role

The School of Humanities and Social Science at UNSW Canberra is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Security Studies. This full‑time, ongoing position will involve teaching, research, and engagement with contemporary security challenges, both conventional and non‑traditional.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses in security studies.
• Develop and update curriculum to reflect emerging security issues and technological change.
• Conduct and publish research with impact in international relations, defence policy, and related fields.
• Utilise educational technologies for online and blended learning delivery.
• Contribute to inclusive teaching practices and support equity, diversity, and student success initiatives.
• Engage with industry, government, and external stakeholders to enhance research relevance.

Required profile

• PhD in Security Studies or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated commitment to staying current in disciplinary knowledge and professional practice.
• Proven experience in curriculum design and teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
• Strong research track record with high‑quality outputs and evidence of research leadership.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.
