Mechanical Engineer – Rolling Stock – Italy

About the role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join its Rolling Stock Engineering Department in Italy. The role involves working on complex railway projects, supporting design, integration and validation of mechanical components for trains.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare System Requirements Specifications (SyRS) for mechanical components.
• Analyse technical documentation from suppliers and verify installation/integration drawings.
• Conduct internal and supplier design reviews under supervision of Engineering Managers.
• Attend system stand‑alone type tests and review test reports.
• Support manufacturing, testing and validation phases.
• Prepare structural, layout and routing drawings, Bill of Materials and documentation for vehicle approval.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience in the railway sector or complex industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of railway regulations, standards and engineering processes.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, multicultural, international team.
• Excellent planning, organisational and problem‑solving skills.

Required skills

• IBM DOORS requirements management tool.
• Mechanical CAD systems – CATIA or Creo.
• PLM system – Windchill.
• Piping system design and joint design methodologies.
• Noise and vibration modelling of mechanical components.
• Welded structure design rules (EN 15085).
• Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
