Mechanical Project Engineer – Data Centre Projects

About the role

You will join a leading engineering firm that delivers large, mission‑critical data centre projects across Europe. Based in Milan, you will be responsible for turning design intent into on‑site installation, ensuring the mechanical aspects of the project are delivered safely, on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and organise design documents and drawings for the construction team.
• Participate in handover meetings to align scope, design and execution.
• Identify value‑engineering opportunities that reduce cost without compromising quality.
• Prepare coordinated multidisciplinary drawings (mechanical, electrical, sprinkler, architectural, structural).
• Review design specifications, technical submittals and drawings for compliance and constructability.
• Support weekly progress reporting and manage purchase orders, deliveries and receipts.
• Raise and track RFIs to resolve design ambiguities.
• Monitor project commercial aspects such as variations, take‑offs and profit plans.
• Facilitate technical meetings and mediate between designers, contractors and the project team.
• Control project documentation using File Key.
• Develop method statements and risk assessments reflecting site conditions.
• Coordinate subcontractors to ensure correct installation timing.
• Conduct inspections, snagging, P&ID/layout walk‑downs and manage test packs.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of the link between design, procurement and installation.
• Proactive problem‑solver who prefers action over observation.
• Excellent communication with BIM modelers, site crews and commercial teams.
• Comfortable working within structured processes while handling the dynamic nature of live construction projects.
• Desire to build a career delivering complex data‑centre projects in Europe.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering expertise.
• Multidisciplinary drawing coordination (MEP, architectural, structural).
• Document control using File Key or similar systems.
• Preparation of method statements and risk assessments.
• P&ID and layout walk‑down experience.
• Use of RFIs and value‑engineering analysis.
