Mechanical R&D Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Mechanical R&D Engineer to join our Electrical Safety Solutions unit in Pioltello, Milan. You will work on the design, analysis and validation of high‑power electrical and electromechanical products that protect critical infrastructure worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design and construct electrical systems, products and project‑based solutions.
• Perform finite element analyses (tension, stress, fatigue, vibration, welding, aging) to optimise new product designs.
• Model welded, bolted and riveted joints, evaluate proof stresses and safety factors according to railway norms.
• Maintain and update the design database to ensure traceability and correct production.
• Validate mechanical and electrical designs of dedicated product groups.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field such as Electrical Engineering).
• Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in mechanical validation and FE simulation.
• Fluent English with ability to produce high‑quality written reports; French is a plus.
• Experience in the railway rolling‑stock industry and knowledge of international standards is advantageous.

Required skills

• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using MSC Nastran, Apex or Patran.
• 3D CAD modelling (SolidWorks, CATIA, Autodesk Inventor, Creo, etc.).
• Analysis of welded joints and fatigue.
• Knowledge of medium/high voltage AC/DC systems is a strong plus.
