Mold Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Mold Engineer to join the Engineering Department of a leading multinational precision manufacturing company at its Italian plant near Modena. The role covers the full lifecycle of injection molds, from design review through to production maintenance and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead 2D/3D design reviews, analysing mold kinematics, cooling layouts, venting and rheological simulation data (Moldflow) to optimise tool feasibility and quality.
• Act as the primary technical liaison for external tool shops, managing supplier qualification, technical specifications, procurement timelines and deliverables.
• Drive mold trials from initial testing (T0) to production readiness and collaborate with Quality and Validation teams on IQ/OQ/PQ protocols.
• Diagnose mechanical defects, component wear or structural issues and implement corrective actions with the internal technical team.
• Define and standardise preventive and predictive maintenance programmes, supervising internal tool shop operations or external service partners.
• Manage mold modifications, engineering changes and mentor junior Project Engineers on tooling standards.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related technical field with a focus on mold manufacturing.
• 3‑7 years of experience in mold design, manufacturing or tooling project management within the plastic injection molding sector, preferably in clean‑room or regulated environments (medical, pharma).
• Strong knowledge of mold mechanics, steel selection, heat treatments, hot‑runner systems and precision machining technologies (CNC, EDM, grinding).
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and ability to interpret injection‑molding simulation software (Moldflow or Moldex3D).
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) and a problem‑solving, analytical mindset.
