Movement Control Officer

About the role

The Movement Control Officer will work in the Strategic Multimodal Movement Operations Centre (SMMOC) in Brindisi, Italy, supporting United Nations peacekeeping and other DOS clients. Reporting to the Chief SMMOC, the officer coordinates the planning, negotiation and execution of multimodal transportation for personnel, equipment and United Nations owned assets.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and assess client requests for deployment, rotation, repatriation and equipment movement, identifying cost‑effective solutions and ensuring compliance with UN guidelines.
• Develop and implement detailed movement plans, prepare cost estimates, requisitions, Letters of Assist and coordinate with the Procurement Division for bidding and contract award.
• Monitor end‑to‑end delivery of transportation services, liaise with clients, Permanent Missions and service providers, and maintain digital dashboards for performance reporting.
• Collect and analyse movement data, produce visual reports and provide insights to improve operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of large‑volume transportation programs, air/sea/ground logistics and related safety regulations.
• Ability to negotiate with national governments, Permanent Missions and contractors, and to resolve conflicts.
• Professionalism, client orientation and the capacity to work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry, analysis and query execution.
• Experience creating PowerPoint presentations and data visualisations (charts, graphs, tables).
• Familiarity with logistics databases and electronic procurement tools.
