Optical Designer – R&D for Satellite Optical Communications

About the role

Our client is seeking Optical Designers to join the R&D department that develops optical communication solutions for satellite applications in partnership with ESA and ASI. The role will focus on designing, validating and testing optical systems used to assess the performance and interoperability of Optical Communication Terminal payloads.

Key responsibilities

• Design and validate optical systems for satellite communication payload testing.
• Plan and execute test campaigns in accordance with relevant standards.
• Analyse test data to certify payload interoperability.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve the test‑facility procedures.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering or Physics (PhD preferred but not mandatory).
• Strong passion for emerging technologies and problem‑solving attitude.
• Ability to work autonomously and proactively learn new tools.

Required skills

• Optical systems design.
• Optical testing of telescopes and imaging systems.
• Execution of test campaigns following industry standards.
