R&D Electrical Engineer - Transformer Business Unit

About the role

HITACHI ENERGY ITALY S.P.A. is looking for an R&D Electrical Engineer to join its Transformer Business Unit in Monselice (Padua, Italy). The engineer supports the team in global research and development projects, leading and managing them to on-time delivery within budget and with the required quality.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage R&D projects, supporting project managers and global product managers with business cases, cost evaluations, market introduction plans and related activities.
• Perform finite element simulations for transformers, for projects and for troubleshooting factory issues.
• Design transformers electrically and/or review designs, and supervise manufacturing and testing of new solutions and prototypes.
• Assess and mitigate risks linked to new technologies and scientific solutions.
• Share knowledge through technical reports, specifications and training, and document results in reports and presentations.
• Support failure analysis and failure-prevention programmes.

Required profile

• Master's degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent) with 2+ years' experience in electrical machines (transformers, motors or substation components) and/or high-voltage component design or review.
• Experience with transformers is highly valued.
• Proven problem-solving ability, structured and methodical approach, and experience collaborating with stakeholders across remote locations.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of Python or other programming languages is a plus.
• Advanced finite element simulations (magnetic and/or dielectric) is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
