Research Consultant (Intergenerational Governance)

About the role

UNICEF Innocenti is seeking a Research Consultant to support comparative research on formal youth governance mechanisms in national and multilateral arenas. The consultancy will focus on climate education initiatives and intergenerational governance, contributing to the Leading Minds Fellowship agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Provide analytical, research, coordination and synthesis support across study components.
• Conduct comparative analysis, pathway tracing and thematic research on youth participation in public decision‑making.
• Examine design, resourcing and functioning of youth participation mechanisms and institutional response pathways.
• Strengthen UNICEF’s evidence base on meaningful child and youth participation, especially in Global South contexts.
• Explore cross‑cutting dimensions such as inclusion of adolescents, accountability loops, conflict‑affected settings, and public investment impacts.

Required profile

• Proven experience in policy research, youth participation, or climate education.
• Familiarity with global‑south contexts and multilateral governance structures.
• Strong analytical, writing and synthesis abilities.
• Ability to work independently and remotely for a 13.5‑month fixed‑term.
