Scientist (Climate Change)

About the role

The Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) is seeking a dedicated Scientist to support its Climate Change and Security Programme. You will work within the Environmental Knowledge and Operational Effectiveness team, analysing climate data and assessing its impact on NATO defence across all maritime and land domains.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on climate change impacts relevant to NATO’s defence and security objectives.
• Analyse large climate datasets, develop numerical models and apply big‑data analytics to produce actionable insights.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of scientists, data engineers, software engineers and technicians.
• Contribute to reports, scientific publications and briefings for senior NATO stakeholders.
• Support the development of climate‑focused tools and methodologies for operational use.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in climate science, environmental science, oceanography or a related field.
• Proven experience in climate data analysis and numerical modelling.
• Strong understanding of defence or security contexts is highly desirable.
• Ability to work in an international, multidisciplinary research environment.
