Senior Applied Scientist – Multilingual Speech AI

About the role

The Alexa International Science team is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to lead research and development of generative AI speech technologies. You will shape multilingual speech‑to‑speech and text‑to‑speech solutions that power Alexa’s voice experience across many languages.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement novel algorithms for multilingual speech generation, TTS, and speech‑to‑speech models.
• Leverage Amazon’s large‑scale data and compute resources to improve voice quality, pronunciation accuracy, and expressiveness for non‑English locales.
• Drive scientific strategy for speech quality across international markets and influence partner teams.
• Collaborate with software engineers to optimize models for production deployment.
• Participate in science reviews, paper reading groups, and cross‑team brainstorming sessions.

Required profile

• Strong background in machine learning and deep learning applied to speech.
• Expertise in speech synthesis (TTS/S2S) and multilingual phonetics.
• Experience with modern model architectures and rigorous evaluation methodology.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and solve low‑resource language challenges.
• Proven track record of influencing and aligning multiple teams around a scientific vision.
