Senior Model Developer – Credit & ESG Risk

About the role

ING is seeking a Senior Model Developer to join its Bank‑wide Credit Risk, ESG Risk and Risk Strategy teams in Milan. The role focuses on designing, building and maintaining advanced credit and ESG risk models that support the bank’s corporate lending activities.

Key responsibilities

• Support the full model development lifecycle: methodology definition, data collection, analysis, development, calibration, documentation and monitoring.
• Contribute to initiatives required by supervisory authorities or internal/external auditors.
• Coordinate testing, validation and production release activities.
• Collaborate with front‑office, Risk Management, Model Risk Management and auditors throughout the model lifecycle.
• Perform portfolio and deep‑dive analyses for routine model usage and ad‑hoc projects.

Required profile

• At least 4 years of experience in credit risk model development (AIRB, IFRS 9) or ESG risk modeling.
• Master’s degree or PhD in Econometrics, Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of Basel regulatory framework and IFRS 9, with experience building expert‑based or statistical models.
• Familiarity with ESG modeling topics such as double materiality assessment, ESG risk factors and data.
• Understanding of ECB/EBA regulatory environment; experience interacting with supervisory authorities is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills; fluent in English.
