Senior Software Engineer – Instrument Control & API Architecture

About the role

3Brain is seeking a senior‑level software engineer to join its Italian office. You will design and implement software that controls, automates, and integrates advanced scientific instruments used in life‑science research and pharmaceutical labs.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain software for instrument control, coordination and monitoring.
• Create robust interfaces for hardware devices using TCP/IP, USB, serial protocols, vendor SDKs or APIs.
• Build scalable API libraries that enable internal teams and external laboratories to integrate with 3Brain systems.
• Develop low‑level, performance‑critical components such as device drivers, hardware abstraction layers and data acquisition modules.
• Implement multithreaded and concurrent software with careful timing, synchronization and resource management.
• Collaborate with engineering, scientific and software teams to translate requirements into reliable solutions.
• Ensure software reliability, maintainability, scalability and production readiness.
• Troubleshoot software, hardware‑interface and system‑integration issues and maintain technical documentation.

Required profile

• Several years of hands‑on experience in senior software development roles.
• Strong background in system integration and laboratory automation.
• Ability to work on‑site in a fast‑growing, interdisciplinary environment.
