Software Engineer III – Backend (Consumer Payments)

About the role

As a Software Engineer III, Backend in the Consumer Payment & Services domain, you will build and scale the services millions of users interact with daily, driving engagement and simplifying money management.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of mission‑critical consumer features using Java, Spring Boot and PostgreSQL.
• Develop and maintain high‑impact functionalities such as BNPL, Gift Cards, Mobile Top‑ups and Personal IBAN transfers.
• Improve backend logic and reliability of budget mechanisms and scheduled top‑ups.
• Take ownership of AWS‑based infrastructure (EC2/ECS, S3, Lambda, Kinesis) and drive architectural improvements.
• Leverage AI tools daily to write, optimise code and generate documentation.
• Turn vague user needs into scalable technical solutions while balancing speed and quality.
• Collaborate with Product and UX/UI teams, contribute to code reviews and refactoring initiatives.
• Debug complex issues across services and investigate production incidents to enhance system health.

Required profile

• Problem‑solver with high curiosity, ownership mindset and teamwork orientation.
• At least 3 years of experience as a Backend Engineer in fast‑paced environments.
• Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot, with exposure to cloud environments.
• Deep care for performance, reliability and clean business logic.
• Excellent cross‑functional communication skills, able to explain technical ideas clearly.
• Passionate about FinTech or startup environments and fluent in English.
