Vehicle Safety Performance Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Vehicle Safety Performance Engineer to join our headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese. Reporting to the Head of BIW Structures & Vehicle Safety and working closely with the Vehicle Safety Coordinator, you will define passive safety requirements, support R&D, and oversee vehicle safety testing throughout product development.

Key responsibilities

• Define and support passive safety requirements during concept and design phases.
• Provide technical recommendations on safety parameters such as part shapes, dimensions, and layout.
• Assist in the selection of suppliers and partners for passive safety systems (airbags, seat belts, etc.).
• Collaborate with BIW‑Trim, Chassis, Powertrain, Electric‑Electronics, and other R&D units to address safety requests.
• Manage technical safety issues during prototype and pre‑series development.
• Plan, schedule, and oversee crash and rollover tests, including data system updates for simulations.
• Participate in crash tests, analyse results, and propose engineering changes.
• Support validation processes with external authorities and prepare self‑certifications according to country regulations.
• Maintain relationships with external partners for safety testing and validation.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Biomedical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in passive vehicle safety, including type‑approval projects.
• Hands‑on experience with airbag and seat‑belt module development and release.
• Proficiency in CAE simulation for occupant and pedestrian protection.
• Knowledge of high‑voltage norms and requirements in automotive safety.
• Willingness to travel for business purposes.
• Fluent English; Italian and German are a plus.
