Divisional Director of Engineering & Maintenance – Southern Europe

About the role

The Divisional Director of Engineering & Maintenance will lead all engineering and maintenance activities for Belmond’s thirteen luxury hotels across Southern Europe. This senior position ensures operational excellence, safety, and guest satisfaction while preserving heritage properties and supporting the brand’s luxury travel strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering aspects of major renovations, new developments and capital‑expenditure projects from conception through commissioning.
• Collaborate with Design & Construction teams to meet specifications, budgets and timelines.
• Provide guidance to hotel Directors of Engineering, fostering continuous improvement and proactive maintenance.
• Conduct regular property visits and audits to assess performance, compliance and regulatory standards.
• Develop and manage divisional engineering budgets (CapEx and OpEx), monitor spending and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
• Drive energy‑consumption initiatives, implement sustainable technologies and embed environmental stewardship.
• Negotiate and manage vendor contracts to ensure quality, cost‑effectiveness and reliability.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in hotel engineering and maintenance, preferably within luxury or heritage properties.
• Proven track record of delivering large‑scale capital projects on time and within budget.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and develop engineering teams across multiple locations.
• Deep understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
