Process Technologist – Steel Production

About the role

The Process Technologist will join an international Process Engineering team focused on the development, optimisation and commissioning of highly automated steel production plants. The role bridges metallurgical processes, industrial automation and mathematical modelling, with strong exposure to global projects.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse process data and optimise production parameters.
• Develop and tune simulations and mathematical models for process control.
• Optimise Level 1 and Level 2 industrial automation systems in collaboration with software and automation teams.
• Work with automation, electrical and mechanical engineers to define process logic and operational guidelines.
• Participate in commissioning, cold‑test, hot‑test and ramp‑up activities at international sites.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to process, automation and models.
• Monitor production performance and drive continuous‑improvement actions.
• Conduct technological benchmarking and process optimisation studies.

Required profile

• Engineering degree (Mechanical, Metallurgical, Materials, Automation or related).
• Minimum 5 years experience in the steel or heavy‑industry sector.
• Proven experience in process automation and industrial commissioning.
• Knowledge of Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems.
• Strong data‑analysis skills and familiarity with industrial databases.
• Professional working proficiency in English.
• Willingness to travel internationally and stay for extended periods at production plants.

Required skills

• Abaqus and Finite Element Method (FEM) modelling.
• C and C++ programming for model and logic development.
• Python for data analysis and simulations.
• Experience with industrial databases.
• Level 1 and Level 2 automation system expertise.
