Assistant Sommelier

About the role

We are looking for a passionate Assistant Sommelier to join the Food & Beverage team at Thompson Rome by Hyatt. Reporting to the Head of Sommelier, you will support all outlets with wine list management, guest interaction, and inventory control, ensuring a memorable wine experience for every guest.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain full knowledge of the hotel’s wine list and assist in sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory.
• Ensure proper storage, cellaring, handling, and service standards for all wines.
• Collaborate on wine cost monitoring and pricing strategies to support profitability.
• Provide expert wine recommendations and food pairings to guests.
• Conduct wine tastings, special pairing events, and staff training sessions.
• Maintain compliance with local and national alcohol regulations.
• Support beverage service, upsell appropriately, and keep wine lists and sales records up to date.

Required profile

• Tourism or Enology studies preferred.
• Certification from a recognized wine institution (WSET, AIS, Court of Master Sommeliers, or equivalent).
• Previous experience in a luxury hotel or fine‑dining environment.
• Strong knowledge of wines, spirits, and food pairings.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in Italian and English.
