Front Desk Medical Receptionist

About the role

The Front Desk Medical Receptionist supports Stony Brook Internists in delivering efficient patient care by managing the front‑desk operations of a busy outpatient practice in Lake Grove, NY.

Key responsibilities

• Answer, screen, and route incoming phone calls, taking messages and escalating urgent medical queries to clinicians.
• Maintain a clean, organized reception area and ensure HIPAA compliance at all times.
• Use the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to check patients in and out, verify demographics and insurance, collect signatures, and enter or scan patient data.
• Collect payments, process transactions, and handle insurance authorizations, referrals, and eligibility verification.
• Notify providers of patient arrivals, delays, or backlogs and communicate schedule changes to patients.
• Schedule appointments, procedures, and follow‑up visits, and send reminders about required documentation.
• Monitor office supplies, place orders or alert the office manager when inventory is low.
• Provide coverage for evenings or weekends as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Strong organizational and written/ verbal communication abilities.
• Professional telephone etiquette and excellent typing speed.
