Head of Finance

About the role

Amnesty International Italy is seeking a Head of Finance to lead the financial stewardship of the organisation. Reporting to senior leadership, you will ensure transparent, reliable, and compliant financial management that supports the movement’s mission to defend human rights worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Define and maintain financial planning and management control frameworks.
• Lead the annual and multi‑year budgeting process, monitor variances and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide the Leadership Team with clear financial analysis to inform strategic decisions.
• Partner with Fundraising teams to deliver income and cash‑flow forecasts, ROI analysis and support sustainable revenue growth.
• Oversee statutory accounts, periodic closings, and ensure compliance with accounting, tax and regulatory requirements.
• Support more than 100 local volunteer treasurers in managing operating expenses and bank accounts.
• Produce financial reports for senior management, governance bodies and external stakeholders.
• Maintain internal control systems, financial KPIs and coordinate internal and external audits.
• Drive process optimisation, digitalisation and harmonisation across administrative functions.
• Manage movement‑wide financial mechanisms such as cost‑sharing, internal grants and redistribution models.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading finance functions in large, complex or international organisations.
• Strong knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, cash‑flow management and financial reporting.
• Excellent understanding of accounting standards, tax regulations and audit processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, including fundraising, operations and volunteer networks.
• Commitment to the values and mission of a human‑rights NGO.
