Lead Product Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Product Design Engineer to join the R&D department of a global eyewear leader. The role will drive the creation of complex mechanical solutions for ophthalmic lenses, frames and sunglasses, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to bring innovative products to market.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and act as reference for complex mechanical solutions within a multi‑disciplinary team.
• Ideate, design, build, test and refine prototypes and characterization test systems.
• Apply state‑of‑the‑art technologies to solve challenging mechanical problems.
• Manage the full product development cycle from concept definition to final product.
• Collaborate closely with industrial designers, UX teams and quality engineers.
• Travel to engineering builds and vendor sites to support development.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or mold design, preferably in med‑tech or electronics.
• Proven experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
• Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills, able to work autonomously in a fast‑paced environment.
• Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams and managing vendor relationships.

Required skills

• Parametric 3D CAD software (preferably Creo).
• PDM system experience (preferably Windchill).
• Injection molding design and process knowledge.
• Statistical tolerance analysis, functional dimensioning and geometric tolerancing.
• Material properties expertise (plastics, metal, adhesive, glass).
• Prototyping tools and manufacturing technologies.
• Office 365 proficiency.
