Lecturer in Marine Science (Level B)

About the role

We are seeking a Level B Lecturer in Marine Science to join the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. The successful candidate will lead high‑quality research, deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and supervise research students in fisheries science and/or biological oceanography, with strong connections to policy and environmental management.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct and publish original research in fisheries science, marine biogeochemistry, pelagic ecosystems or related areas.
• Teach and develop curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate marine science courses.
• Supervise Honours, Masters and PhD students, providing mentorship and academic guidance.
• Collaborate with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Our Future Oceans and other research centres within the school.
• Contribute to national ocean‑modelling initiatives and the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) facilities.
• Translate scientific findings into policy recommendations and engage with public communication activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Marine Science, Fisheries Science, Biological Oceanography or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated research excellence and a strong publication record.
• Experience in teaching at the university level and supervising research students.
• Ability to work across interdisciplinary teams and engage with state, national or international policy processes.
