Legal expert (Consultant)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a qualified legal expert to join its Migration Management Unit in Rome on a consultancy basis. The consultant will support IOM Italy’s projects funded under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), focusing on voluntary return, reintegration and the development of innovative counselling services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support for the RI.VOL.A.RE. in RE.TE project, assisting third‑country nationals willing to return to their countries of origin.
• Contribute to the F.A.S.T.E.R. project by developing and delivering counselling services that strengthen the national Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) system.
• Draft, review and ensure compliance of project documentation with Italian and international migration law.
• Collaborate with governmental, intergovernmental and non‑governmental partners to facilitate orderly migration processes.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer registered with the relevant Bar.
• Minimum of five years professional experience in migration, asylum or related legal fields.
• Fluency in Italian and English, both written and spoken.
