Senior Fellow – Gaming and Online Harms

About the role

The incumbent will support UNICRI in implementing the “Checkpoint Reached” project and expanding research on gaming and online harms. The role focuses on evidence generation, stakeholder engagement and knowledge dissemination within the Cybercrime and Online Harms workstream.

Key responsibilities

• Support the “Checkpoint Reached” project, especially the Game Jam, through research, stakeholder engagement and knowledge dissemination.
• Conduct research and analysis on the intersection of gaming environments with terrorism, violent extremism, exploitation, cybercrime and other emerging online harms.
• Investigate the potential of games to foster pro‑social behaviour, digital resilience and prevention, and document best practices.
• Map and engage stakeholders such as game developers, technology companies, law‑enforcement agencies, civil society organisations and international bodies.
• Prepare reports, background papers, briefing notes, presentations and other analytical products on gaming and online harms.
• Identify emerging issues, research gaps and opportunities for future programming in the field.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in law, political science, security studies, criminology, cybersecurity, public policy or related field (or first‑level degree plus two years relevant experience).
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in research, policy analysis, programme development or project implementation in crime prevention, criminal justice, rule of law, human rights or related areas.
• Demonstrated experience working on cybercrime, online harms, terrorism, violent extremism or gaming environments.
• Experience working with communities and conducting research that leads to analytical or policy‑oriented outputs.
• Preferable experience in Southeast Asia and prior work with the United Nations or other international organisations.
• Fluency in oral and written English.
