Research position in formal methods for digital industry

About the role

The Digital Industry Centre at FBK is seeking a researcher to advance formal methods for safety‑critical and autonomous systems. The role supports strategic projects funded by the European Space Agency and industrial partners, focusing on verification, runtime monitoring, and model‑based design.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and evaluate formal verification and runtime verification techniques for AI components and 3D object movement.
• Integrate verification methods into model‑based design environments and align digital models across their lifecycle.
• Conduct model checking for software, hardware, embedded, and cyber‑physical systems.
• Publish research results in top conferences such as CAV, TACAS, FM, and RV.
• Implement and maintain research tools developed by the FM unit.
• Collaborate with European research projects and industrial partners, including ESA and railway networks.

Required profile

• Strong research background in formal methods, model‑based design, or safety‑critical systems (PhD preferred).
• Experience with verification, runtime monitoring, and model checking of complex embedded or cyber‑physical systems.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and communicate results to academic and industrial audiences.
