Staff Backend Engineer – Remote (EMEA)

About the role

Rain, the world’s first AI Financial Health Platform, is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join its User Tribe. This senior technical leader will shape the architecture of core fintech systems that connect banking, payroll, and time‑keeping data, working remotely across EMEA.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical direction and architecture for major backend areas, turning ambiguous product goals into scalable solutions.
• Design, build, and maintain reliable micro‑services in a fully distributed environment.
• Develop and support high‑availability RESTful APIs for web and mobile applications.
• Create and manage integrations with third‑party vendors and partners.
• Establish reusable frameworks, libraries, and patterns to accelerate product development.
• Implement observability best practices using logging, metrics, and alerting tools.
• Produce detailed technical documentation covering architecture, APIs, workflows, and configurations.
• Mentor engineers and raise the overall technical bar of the team.

Required profile

• At least 8 years of professional engineering experience, with staff‑level or principal‑level responsibilities.
• Proven track record designing and building novel fintech products from concept to scale.
• Strong system design skills and ability to balance rapid delivery with long‑term technical health.
• Experience leading ambiguous, large‑scale initiatives to completion.
