About the role
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is looking for an Arabic‑French speaking Cultural Mediator to join a roving protection team in Lampedusa, Sicily. The mediator will work directly with newly arrived refugees and migrants at disembarkation points and reception hotspots, providing cultural mediation, information sessions, and protection support.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct outreach activities in coordination with UNHCR and the Protection & GBV expert.
- Provide cultural mediation and direct information sessions to newly arrived persons.
- Identify Persons with Specific Needs, especially GBV survivors, and facilitate referrals to IRC/UNHCR services.
- Assist with data collection, protection monitoring, and assessment activities.
- Work autonomously while maintaining close collaboration with the protection team.
Required profile
- Fluency in Arabic and French (both spoken and written).
- Experience in humanitarian protection, GBV response, or cultural mediation.
- Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, field‑based environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to vulnerable populations.
- Willingness to travel within Sicily and work in reception centers.
