Associate Professor – Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence

About the role

The School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW seeks an Associate Professor to lead research and teaching in Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence. You will shape the strategic direction of this emerging field, combining machine learning with symbolic reasoning to develop robust, interpretable AI systems.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct high‑impact research on neural‑symbolic integration, knowledge representation, and hybrid AI architectures.
• Secure competitive research funding and lead interdisciplinary research initiatives.
• Supervise higher‑degree research students to successful completion.
• Deliver high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and contribute to curriculum development.
• Engage with industry partners and contribute to the School’s research profile and strategic planning.

Required profile

• Established academic with a strong, sustained record of high‑impact publications in Neurosymbolic AI.
• National or international reputation in the field.
• Proven ability to obtain research funding and lead research teams.
• Effective educator with experience in curriculum design and student supervision.
• Demonstrated leadership in academic governance or program development.
