Head of Global External Supply Operations

About the role

As the Head of Global External Supply Operations you will lead Grünenthal’s external manufacturing network, ensuring a reliable, high‑quality supply of medicines worldwide. You will shape strategy, drive performance, and partner with senior leaders across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the global External Supply Operations (ESO) strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Lead a network of ~66 external suppliers with annual spend > €200 million.
• Guarantee uninterrupted supply across quality, service, cost, cash, compliance and risk dimensions.
• Own strategic supplier relationship management, governance and value creation.
• Build and develop a high‑performing ESO organization and guide cross‑functional virtual teams.
• Manage supply risk, act as escalation point for critical supplier, quality and continuity issues.
• Lead strategic initiatives such as due diligences, technology transfers, network optimisation, new product introductions and business integrations.
• Represent ESO in executive governance forums, strategic supplier reviews and major negotiations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, Business Administration or related field; MBA preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in pharmaceutical operations, external manufacturing, supply chain or procurement.
• Proven success managing global CMO/CDMO networks and strategic partnerships at senior executive level.
• Demonstrated P&L accountability and end‑to‑end operational leadership.
• Deep understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing, supply chain and quality systems across multiple dosage forms.

Required skills
