Junior Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

RINA is looking for a motivated Junior Cyber Security Engineer to join its Operating Engine Division in Italy. The role offers the opportunity to work on diverse security projects, support customers, and develop practical skills in risk assessment, hardening, and security tooling.

Key responsibilities

• Identify security risks within organizations and complex systems/architectures.
• Analyse, draft and review technical documentation for IT and communication systems.
• Manage version changes of documents and system configurations.
• Design and recommend security measures to improve security postures.
• Implement technical security measures, including hardening of target systems/devices.
• Provide cybersecurity support to customers.
• Develop scripts or configure network devices using automated configuration tools.
• Conduct vulnerability assessment and penetration testing activities as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Cyber Security or a related field.
• Up to 5 years of experience, preferably 2‑3 years in cybersecurity.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and excellent communication in Italian and English.
• Flexibility to multitask in a fast‑paced environment and willingness to travel domestically and abroad.

Required skills

• Knowledge of operating‑system security concepts.
• Understanding of cryptographic algorithms such as SHA, AES, CBC, ECB.
• Familiarity with networking models.
• Programming languages: Java, C, C++, C#, VB.Net, Python.
• Experience with automated configuration tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
• Use of vulnerability assessment tools and penetration‑testing techniques.
• Knowledge of cloud security, cyber‑threat intelligence, and mobile threat detection.
• Experience with IPS/IDS, endpoint protection platforms (EPP, EDR, MDR, XDR).
• Familiarity with code security analysis tools, Web Application Firewalls (WAF), SOAR, SIEM, and GRC solutions.
