Lead Umbilical Engineer

About the role

The Lead Umbilical Engineer will provide technical leadership for all umbilical and fiber optic cable (FOC) engineering activities within the SURF package of an offshore project in Azerbaijan. This senior position oversees design, fabrication, testing, installation and commissioning, ensuring compliance with project requirements, international standards and company specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical activities for umbilical and FOC design, manufacturing, installation, testing, pre‑commissioning and commissioning.
• Review and validate contractor and vendor documentation, resolve technical queries and deviations.
• Act as the primary technical interface with contractors on all umbilical and FOC matters.
• Coordinate with SURF, SPS, Telecom, on‑shore and multidisciplinary teams to optimise execution.
• Supervise fabrication, testing and qualification across multiple facilities, ensuring QA/QC and H3SE compliance.
• Oversee FAT, SAT, PQT and other qualification programmes to meet contractual and technical requirements.
• Prepare and deliver technical reports, progress updates, risk assessments and lessons learned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Offshore, Subsea, Marine engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of oil & gas experience with specialist expertise in subsea deep‑water and shallow‑water umbilical engineering.
• Proven experience managing design, fabrication, testing and integration of major offshore umbilical systems.
• Experience with fiber optic cable installation, including near‑shore and landfall activities.
• Previous involvement in large‑scale EPC/EPCI projects and contractor coordination.
