Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Caracol is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development and industrialisation of additive manufacturing projects. You will work closely with sales and internal teams to translate customer requirements into feasible, high‑performance designs ready for large‑format additive manufacturing (LFAM) production.

Key responsibilities

• Perform engineering and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) activities on acquired orders for both on‑demand projects and technology benchmarks.
• Support the sales department during feasibility studies by analysing customer files, technical prerequisites and functional requirements.
• Develop detailed mechanical designs and parametric 3D models that meet project specifications and quality standards.
• Prepare and manage 2D technical drawings according to industrial standards.
• Interface with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to validate technical feasibility.
• Define material and process requirements in collaboration with internal teams.
• Evaluate part printability against LFAM criteria and prepare designs for production.
• Coordinate with production and quality teams to ensure smooth project execution.
• Draft and maintain complete technical documentation and design records for traceability.
• Manage end‑to‑end project activities, including coordination with purchasing, logistics and administrative functions.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in mechanical design and additive manufacturing.
• Proven ability to work cross‑functionally and communicate technical concepts clearly.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software and parametric 3D modelling.
• Experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and evaluating part printability for LFAM.
• Knowledge of additive manufacturing processes and large‑scale composite or metal printing.
• Ability to produce accurate 2D technical drawings following industrial standards.
