Mechanical Engineer – Interior Design (m/f/d)

About the role

Schindler is seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Interior Design to join its R&D Mechanical Engineering team in Milan. The role focuses on the mechanical integration, precision and perceived quality of elevator cabin interior components, ensuring premium fit‑and‑finish.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical solutions and design concepts for interior component integration, ensuring alignment, consistent gaps and premium fit & finish.
• Design interfaces between mechanical structures and interior elements such as frames, brackets, fasteners and aesthetic components.
• Perform tolerance analysis and manage tolerance chains that affect alignment, spacing and perceived quality.
• Support prototyping and physical validation activities, including on‑site verification of alignments, flatness, gaps, reflections and surface quality.
• Ensure design‑to‑cost by considering manufacturability, installability and maintainability.
• Create 3D models, drawings and technical documentation in PDM systems and support release processes.
• Drive coordination within the area of responsibility and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
• Provide technical input to support decision‑making across alternative engineering solutions.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience in mechanical design of aesthetic components.
• Proven ability to coordinate activities within assigned technical responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of tolerance analysis and its impact on alignment and gaps.
