Mechanisms Design Engineer

About the role

Thales Alenia Space is looking for a Mechanisms Design Engineer to join its mechanical engineering team. The role involves designing, analysing, and delivering high‑tech mechanical solutions for space hardware, supporting programmes in telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation and scientific exploration.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical hardware engineering activities, from concept to production.
• Analyse mechanical requirements using advanced studies, simulations, mock‑ups, models and prototypes.
• Define mechanical functions, requirements and development plans.
• Prepare complete data packages (drawings, bills of materials, data management) for hand‑over to production.
• Collaborate with production and procurement to create cost‑effective, manufacturable designs.
• Monitor, plan and report on technical progress of mechanical activities.
• Propose and justify technical, technological and methodological choices in line with project goals.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• Significant experience in hardware development, specifically mechanical engineering.
• Strong team‑player attitude and ability to work in multidisciplinary environments.
• Customer‑oriented mindset with clear understanding of organisational goals.
• Rigorous, analytical approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Mechanical design tools: Catia, SolidWorks, Smarteam, PTC Creo, PTC PDMLink, Siemens NX, Autodesk AutoCAD.
• Mechanical simulation tools: Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus, Dymola, MSC Nastran.
• Structural analysis, strength analysis and design optimisation.
• Experience with shock and vibration testing and qualification procedures.
